| Great Send Off For Spider |
[Jul. 8th, 2008|01:27 pm] |
What a great turnout last night, thank you to everyone who showed up.
A HUGE thank you goes out to DJ Spider who did such a great job this weekend and had to put up with quite a bit *cough*slappy roommates*cough*
Things are finally back to normal, although I am completely exhausted after the full weekend then Hard Monday and having to get up at 6:30 for work the last two days - but it was all worth it. |

| First weekend back |
[Jul. 7th, 2008|09:14 pm] |
Had lots of fun roaming the halls of CONvergence Saturday night. I wish I could have really done the whole CON thing but it was just not possible amidst all of the moving. As anyone could tell you who saw me there I was looking pretty mountain man. I finally got a hair cut and trimmed the beard back down to its proper scruff on Sunday. I am definitely excited to be back in town and being able to attend CON next year, and am looking forward to a nice OmegaCON later this fall.
Today was my first day at work. It was interesting, but so completely different than what I've been doing for the past couple years. I miss my museum, but am feeling more confident in my ability to do this installation stuff. Apparently I need to invest in a decent selection of tools (thankfully many of which I already own). Today I was at three different houses all of which were rather nice. One of them, in Edina, was pretty incredible. I joked with my co-worker that this job was going to make my apartment seem smaller and smaller. Tomorrow I am riding down to Iowa to finish an installation down there (5 hours of driving to do 5 hours of work). At this point my only real concern is how much I'm going to end up spending on gas commuting to and from the office. Ouch!
On the other hand it was fantastic driving home and jumping in the pool and hot tub with Nessa. |

The best t-shirt I saw at CONvergence:
I will not brew Decaf. Decaf is the mind-killer. Decaf brings the little sleep that leads to total oblivion. I will embrace my caffeine. I will brew my beverages and let them flow through me, and when they are gone, I will remain... alert. |

Wow, what a fantastic weekend. Last night was the best main room ever; we still had a packed dancefloor at 5:30 this morning - wow. Every DJ totally kicked ass, it was really unbelievable.
For those of you who missed dj_spider this weekend you have another chance. She is going a guest set with us tomorrow night at Hard Monday. (If you did see her, you know how good she is and you know you want to see her again) |

predictably very slow day in the storefront.
Kitty health: She's an old, old lady. she's mostly very healthy with her few remaining teeth, and she still jumps and sasses and all that. But she's got a LOT of these odd cysts in her skin, and one of the big ones on her back has opened (it's hard to discuss this because it's kinda gross and I love her.) The vet has examined it, cleaned it up, and given me some meds and stuff. But it's where she can lick it, and that's no good. She can't wear a collar, because there's another cyst on her neck that might open if it got rubbed. Amusingly, the vet recommended I find her a onesie to keep her from licking it. So far I haven't found time to do this, but shall this evening after work. I imagine she'll hate it. I'll need to provide her a way to use the litter box. Poor furry old thing.
The AC in the shop is fixed, HURRAY! My monsterboy and I had a chance to look at CONvergence some last night, even hang out with paulzebras and company. That was nice. The Dreaming is gorgeous. The Space Lounge has never sounded better. Many of our best former Minneapolitans are visiting! It really is one of the most creative, most fun SF conventions around. I hope my sweetheart manages to love it too.
The age-old land war in New Mexico seems to have reached a long-standing detente. Anna and Daniel are evidently prospering this year and eventually this strange old debt will be paid in full. Living well does beat revenge. |

| In and partially unpacked |
[Jul. 3rd, 2008|09:01 pm] |
So we are all moved in and officially living in Bloomington, MN now!!!
With much thanks to purplesquirrel, my friend Accollon, and Nessa's sister, Kristin, we got the truck unloaded in seemingly no time. And we even have the place beginning to resemble something other than a storage facility. We've been in the pool both days we've been here, and played a round of ping-pong with Devora. Also since we aren't set up at home yet I'm surfing the intrawebs in the business center here.
Well, I don't know if I'll be able to make it to CON at all over the next several days, but possibly... Hope everyone is having fun. |

It's kind of a miserable day so far. Kitty had to go to the vet this morning, and the AC is both out 'til Saturday and going to be X-Pensive. We've put the chocolates up in the refrigerator so they're not damaged by the heat. Gah. |

Work is kicking my ass like a little bitch this week. I just found out they are sending me to Milwaukee tomorrow to present to Harley, but I'm supposed to be back by 4:30 so I will have plenty of time to get down to CON.
Speaking of which I will be spinning both Thursday and Saturday in the main stage area. Also if you are a non-CON person I will be holding down the fort at The Next Element on Friday

Some other cool news is I was finally government stimulated this week. Because of that, and my desperate need for new equipment, I bought myself two of these:

Violent murder on holy ground gives rise to a possessing spirit of evil. When a brother and sister are trapped in the ruins, can they break the curse? Do they want to? A gothic ballet based on Hansel & Gretel.
Our official Minnesota Fringe page is up now. Excellent!
(And the artist website link doesn't work yet, which I'll be pestering them about.) |

in list order for my friends who love lists
• CONvergence. i have a love hate relationship to this event. the first year was full of anxiety. the second was fun because we played and last year was ok, but i was sorta meh about it. this year i'm totally meh about it. • Derby restart. Boot Camp practice starts back up in a week and I'm feeling both ready and not ready. After skating yesterday for the first time in weeks I'm hyped for the workout. but i also have really come to appreciate the break. first time. also its hard to believe i've been at this for 3 seasons already. wow. I have so many emotional ties to the sport that its strange to also be a little reticent about going back. And while as a friend put it recently Derby has become my new 'scene' I dont feel like its totally my defining aspect. • Milkbar show at Club Underground July 25. Love love love love love love my band and playing again. (there was a while there where i was pretty sure i was quitting. but i stuck it out and i'm glad i did.) • how could i forget? iphone 3g release... july 11 |
